The Artist
biography

Liz Gray is a West Australian visual artist based in Perth, celebrated for her large-scale, emotive paintings of women. Her latest body of work reflects on moments of connection shaped by coastal life in Australia — between people and their animals, and with the natural world itself.
“The figures I paint exist within a landscape defined by vast skies, intense light and long horizons, where daily life is inseparable from the natural environment. Animals are not accessories to the human figure but companions and witnesses, grounding the work in tenderness, loyalty and mutual recognition.”
Liz holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from Rhodes University in South Africa and studied under influential members of the “Grahamstown group”. Her work is held in private and public collections around the world. Liz has been a finalist on numerous art awards, including the prestigious Invitation Art award, Kennedy Art prize and is a recent recipient of a city of Vincent Art grant.
Liz works from her studio in North Perth and exhibits in select galleries across Australia. She also does commissioned work and enjoys working with buyers to create site specific work.
