Liz Gray Art News – December 2021

Greetings!

Well, it’s 20 December already and we are well and truly into the most wonderful time of the year! Amongst the partridges and pear trees, you may find you need a last-minute painting for that wall you’ve been thinking about all year. J I hope that in the midst of it all, you are taking time to rest and reflect on the year that has been and enjoy your time with loved ones.

Mixed Pleasures, Oil on canvas, 1500 x 900mm

Green is incredibly restful on the eye and incorporating an artwork with tones of green in an interior, can have a very calming and positive impact. The colour is timeless, but also very on trend now. In this work, the varying tones of moss green, limes and blue greens of eucalyptus leaves, are set off against a matt black and silver background.

Synchronized swimmers, oil on canvas, 1800 x 1100mm

To celebrate the beginning of summer in Perth, I’ve recently completed this painting, Synchronized swimmers. With much of Australia being let loose after months of lockdown, this work captures something of the sense of anticipation and readiness for action! It re – contextualizes and combines elements from my water girl paintings and floral works. The ocean is just visible in the background and the rather retro bathing caps drip down the canvas.

Liz, working on a large scale commission for a home in Noosa Heads, Queensland

I’ve been working on a 2.7m wide work for a home in Noosa Head, Queensland, and will show you the finished product in my next newsletter. Working on such a big scale I’ve almost felt like I was in the water at times! J

Smart Collective Business workshop

Recently, members of “Smart Collective”, a women’s empowerment business group visited my studio for a Saturday afternoon workshop event. I led the ladies through a collage activity which provided a lot of fun and encouraged everyone to see themselves through a new template.
